happy weekend + year end giving.

throughout the year we try to give to 10 causes and organizations to help support their mission in any way that we can. yangkyu and i have a little bit of experience in grassroots campaign and non-profit fundraising and have come to know first hand how hard and valuable it is.

in the past we have supported a good mix of national and local organizations, but we both have a special place in our hearts for local organizations that are directly tied and serve the community. all organizations need funds to operate, but sometimes it's the community and volunteer driven ones that lack the most resources and funds. but they are also really great at stretching the dollar to have the maximum impact in the work they do.

this year we found ourselves supporting more locally and to individual efforts, and since year-end fundraising drives are my favorite i wanted to drop in and give a little reminder that it's not too late to make charitable contributions to organizations and causes near and dear to you before the year is out. every dollar counts. whether it's $5 or $100.

the world is a better place with kindness and giving. here are the organizations and efforts we supported in 2013:

01 // 4k for cancer
02 // ny abandoned angels: cocker spaniel rescue - baxter's emergency care fund
06 // american red cross - typhoon relief
08 // wikipedia
10 // aspca

what are some causes or organizations that you care about? i would love to know.
hope you have a wonderful weekend.

xoxo,
jane, yangkyu &  piri

    1. we hope to do move volunteering next year! it is really an eye-opening experience.. i can't imagine encouraging others to volunteer and give without having the experience myself. i think it's important that everyone at least does it once in their lives.. it's life-changing and humbling..

  5. I'm definitely with you in also supporting local organizations that also directly effect the community. Recently we're also looking into donating to non-profits that work on women empowerment. I admire you for giving so consistently, Jane! You are awesome!

  6. This is awesome, Jane:) You guys are too sweet and generous. I do think it's important to support charitable organizations. If we don't have the time to volunteer, this is the next best thing. I personally donate the most for the Red Cross.

  7. I love this :) I try to give as well, and honestly am often discouraged by how little other people seem to care about this. So seeing that you care so much, is a giantttt encouragement to me.

  9. I also like the ASPCA, but there is a local rescue here that I love supporting: the Barking Lot- where I got Stella from. Here are also some other good reputable organizations: the American Cancer Society, the Susan G Komen Foundation, St Judes, and a few other that I can't remember. The Navy gets this booklet during a certain time of the year, and we pick from over a thousand organizations to donate to through automatic deductions or one time contributions. Of course, our own personal volunteer time is harder to do, and so we encourage off-duty volunteering too. You just reminded me that I haven't done anything this season, and I feel bad now. Oops. =( -Jess L

  11. This is absolutely great, Jane. It's always interesting to learn about different organizations. Without realizing it, we found ourselves drawn to supporting children this year. One was a feeding program for children in Africa and one was for an organization taking care of battered children in my home country where we prepared Christmas packages for orphans organized by our local badminton team and the typhoon relief.
