an evening at wolf trap!

the last time we went to wolf trap was last spring when we went to see one of our favorite shows we like to listen on npr, a prairie home companion. we went in late may and was still so so cold. we went back to wolf trap last friday to watch disney's beauty and the beast musical and instead of getting tickets closer to the stage, we scored some really cheap lawn section seats through livingsocial, which ended up being a whole lot of fun. and the weather was perfect

for folks who are not familiar, wolf trap is the only national park dedicated to performing arts. so in the middle of sprawling greens and amazing views is this beautiful theatre that hosts really great performances throughout the year.

we brought our picnic blanket {you can also rent these seats so you can sit upright with back support to watch the show for $10 - we just used our bags as pillows} and some long sleeve shirts since the show was going to run past 9 pm when it's a bit chillier and swayed and bopped our heads along to "gaston" and "be our guest". although it was such a fun evening, we ended up leaving during intermission because it was getting so late. also the folks next to us had brought along some fried chicken from popeyes and although yangkyu and i had burgers and fries before the show we were desperately craving some chicken thighs and wings! talk about the power of visual marketing. so before the nearest popeyes closed for the day, we went and grabbed some to go.

we hope to go back again {probably with some popeyes} - the grease sing-a-long at the end of the month sounds fun and so does the july performance of disney fantasia live in concert. we'll definitely be doing the whole lawn section viewing again.

  2. I miss chill outdoor concerts like this. There's a more casual version of this in my hometown of Burnaby, right be a lake. It's smaller than most outdoor venues, but I remember being able to listen to the symphony from my parents' balcony in the summer. Sounds like a lovely time.

  7. Now that's FUN! Great music, food and fresh air. I had to laugh when you mentioned Popeyes. It originated in New Orleans. It always smells and tastes so good. Great post Jane.

  8. We do have an open air theater in Barcelona that works only for two months during summer that is in fact a kind of repurposed ;) greek amphitheater; it is beautiful but the tickets are expensive, wish there was an option like the lawn tickets at wolf trap. Never tried Popeyes but you definitely make me add it as a must for the next time we visit US :)

  14. That does sound like fun! I had to smile when you left at intermission. While my husband and I also enjoy going to musicals and such, I don't know how many times we've left at intermission because it was getting late or we were hungry or whatever. Funny. This makes me want to do something similar!

  17. How fun, you guys always go on super cute dates :) We have a few places around our area that offer open air movies (definitely not as fancy as this) but they offer a nice change to the regular movie theaters - a change is as good as a holiday right!
