Kitchen thoughts heading into the weekend.

I absolutely hate our kitchen sink. It's ceramic. Black. And really ugly. I have also broken way too many dishes and cups while washing them and we have only been in our new home for a little over a month. It's  gotten to the point where I wish we can  start renovating our kitchen starting like right now.

I don't think I'm asking for much. I'm into the whole open cupboard space instead of cabinets, white subway tile backsplash, butcher block countertops and a nice white farmhouse sink. I'm a huge fan of Nicole Curtis on HGTV and she has gotten me into the whole simple and clean look. I think the style suits me and Yangkyu pretty well.

Once those foundations are in place I would like to make pretty white curtains for our windows and add some farmhouse and bohemian touches throughout with some colorful bowls and cups. I have this look in my head and I am wishing for it pretty hard.

But with almost everything, both Yangkyu and I are re-learning how to be patient and planning thoughtfully so we won't feel so overwhelmed. Probably before the kitchen update we'll probably tackle more immediate things like our balcony door and screen, which doesn't really shut properly and so we haven't been enjoying having the door fully open. Then will probably come the hardwood floors. Then finally the beloved kitchen and the bathrooms, oh and the fireplace. I know this all sounds like it's going to happen in the next few months. I wish that were the case. But this all is being planned for the next ten years because that's how long we hope to stay here - making memories and working on updates.

So while we keep dreaming of the big wonderful changes we plan on making, over the weekend we're picking up some rubber liners for the sink and some other things like a welcome home mat {!}, little trash bins and a couple of bathroom mats, too. Oh, and it'll be a nice change of pace around here for the weekend because we have some human guests coming over as soon as our doggy guest leaves.

It's also Labor Day weekend where we are. We're playing with the idea of buying a grill on sale and having a BBQ before summer is out.

Have a great weekend!

  3. My hubby & I have been discussing about all of the updates we need for our house for quite some time. Although fall is just around the corner, I think one of the first things we need to do is get central air. It's getting hotter and hotter each year. Hope you have a nice, long weekend and enjoy it with your human friends :)

  4. We had a ceramic sink in the apartment I grew up in and it's crazy how stuff would shatter if you dropped it in there. Hopefully the rubber liners will do the trick :)

  6. Definitely can relate when it comes to things in your home you just hate. While everyone would like to do a big overhaul, I think making tiny improvements in the areas that make the biggest impact are most cost effective. So, if that sink is really bothering you, why not replace it and then get to the rest of the kitchen later. Of course, I'm not trying to tell you what to do or thwart whatever decision you have already made.

  9. Do have the BBQ - it sounds like the best idea.

Living in rented accommodation in London means that I can tolerate a lot of things but I do get you. After all, you are in your very own home now! But don't let it wind you up dear, one thing at a time. Steady as she goes xx

  13. Your plans for your kitchen sound great and similar to my aesthetic. I LOVE HGTV and I am just a wee bit addicted. I also like that show about the couple that redoes houses. They have a similar aesthetic too.

  19. The sound of you mentioning the fireplace warms my heart already. I guess growing up in a hot and humid country all year round, the thought of having a home with fireplace is very cozy. Can't wait to see more pictures of your home.
Sorry you've to go through the chaotic ceramic sink. It gets challenging I'm sure. Hope you'll find a good replacement.

  21. We have a big deep farmhouse style sink and it's great! It makes washing dishes easier and more enjoyable, if that's even possible. The sink is also recessed into the countertop, so we can scoot crumbs from the countertop directly into sink in one smooth motion. Definitely something to consider when you start your remodeling plans. Hope you are enjoying some BBQ this weekend!
