pick your own sunflowers at burnside farms.

the highlight of our weekend was taking a trip over to burnside farms in haymarket, virginia, to pick our own sunflowers. it was the last weekend to catch them before they get ready for their fall produce and pickings.

last fall we were in jarrettsville, maryland, on a sunflower viewing but it was a fun experience to view and pick them this time around.

if you're ever in virginia, swing by burnside farms. they have pick your own tulips in the spring, sunflowers in the summers and zinnias in the fall. they also have resident goats, turkey, pigs and other farm animals you can say hello to, as well as a selection of produce as well. and the staff are super friendly there.

we were given a basket and shears and you have the option of buying their mason jars to fill your sunflowers in at the prepping station before you check out. there is a $3 entrance fee and the sunflowers were a $1.50 a stem. we picked 7 {for good luck} and they now sit happily on our dining table.

we can't wait to go back for the zinnias in the fall.

  4. Oh that's so cool, I've always wanted to pick something (anything). Although for some reason sunflowers creep me out, they seem alive (like, sentient) to me...

  9. First things first, these photos are wonderful. I love the one of you walking away between the rows of sunflowers. Sunflowers are one of my favorite types of flowers because they are so bright and cheery in a sort of unconventional way. I would kill to have a sunflower field nearby to enjoy a weekend. Despite the clouds, it still sounds like a great time. Maybe I should write this farm down on my bucket list haha

    1. They are so bright and cheery! :) We totally missed the rain, we were so lucky. It poured when we were driving over then stopped and then started to pour again as soon as we got in our car!

    1. Haha. The pigs looked so friendly. I couldn't imagine that they would bite but we sure didn't try to stick our hands in there :) I have heard of Mckee-Beshers but never went! I hope you make it out! Perhaps we shall try too either this year or next!
