It's lookin a lot like fall around here.

I have never been a fan of fall.

The colors, smell and look of it all reminds me of an end to carefree days of summer. You know the childhood where there were no smart phones and we found things to do outside using our imagination. I always associated fall with the end of that and going back to school, which I didn't like so much - getting up early, cold dreary days and loud noisy school buses. Halloween was really never a favorite holiday, but most of all I despise daylight saving time when we have to fall back an hour. I hate that it gets dark so quickly.

But, this year I have embraced the coming of fall and fall itself rather quickly. Perhaps I was tired of being in denial {ha} or maybe it's because I am enjoying the possibility of making {and buying} fall decorations for our new home and knitting chunky hats and crocheting blankets for the colder weather. I am also looking forward to trying out some warm soothing chowder recipes and baking our own bread. I can just imagine what our kitchen will smell like.

After a good recharging over the weekend, we're ready to get through the week. I have a ton of blogs to catch up, some new crochet projects to learn and also taking care of Piri who is still feeling a bit sick. We also hear back from the vet to talk about next steps. Hopefully things will start looking up.

Here's to a productive and fulfilling week for all of us.

  3. I love the door wreath, so beautiful. I love Autumn time, since a child. I love the leaves changing colours, the aromas in the air, the feel of the wind, sitting outside when its dark because the sky seems to play a song only heard in the Autumn time. It;s magical really. Plus, Halloween is so much fun :))) I hope you have a gorgeous week my dear xx

    1. i guess i should learn to like fall even though i don't like daylight saving time. it's seems unfair to not like the entire season because of it!

  5. First, a question: What did you cook with the kabocha? I love kabocha, but I always end up either simmering it down with shoyu & mirin, or simply grilling them with a little olive oil and sea salt. How do you cook yours?

& second, I totally agree with you -- I hate it that it gets darker so much faster once fall hits. Although, there are a lot of things that I love about fall -- the crisp air, warm blankets, and crunching leaves.

    1. oh i was just going to steam the kabocha along with the yam! i don't think i have ever cooked with kabocha before but my dad loves the stuff. he usually fries it though and still passes it for healthy. :)

    2. I ended up making kabocha croquettes over the weekend...and passed it off as a "healthy" side dish. Am I like your dad? Haha. Oh, and I also pan fried the kabocha (cut in cubes) with a little olive oil, small bacon bits, and a little bit of S&P and it was a hit in our home -- and it was super easy {if you ever wanna try it}!

  7. I have always never really cared for fall either, aside from its symbolism, because it always signified the end of the season I love most but I think I'll start appreciating it more now especially after reading the thoughts of someone newly converted lol. And I hope Piri feels better soon :)

  9. Beautiful photos. Falls seems all the rage these days so it's interesting to hear you admit you didn't like it so much. I know aht you mean about associating it with the end of summer and back to school, i still associate it with these things. I really really resent the getting dark so quickly part too! haha

    Hope Piri feels better <3

but these last years I kind of start to appreciate fall
more. Anyway we strive for positive things right c:

  14. Aw the transition to autumn is actually my favourite time of year! I like the cold weather (it wakes me up and refocuses me) and for us it's when the year gets into swing. I would love if our autumn led into Xmas and there were pumpkins involved, haha.

  21. Funny I have always loved fall. I loved the brisk air and the end of the heat and humidity. I was not a big fan of summer as a kid and teen. I loved Halloween and the holidays that come after it and I like colder weather and snow. I do like summer now though.

  24. Crossing fingers for that vet call! :) When I was a kid I also had a hate relationship with fall because it meant the end of those fun summer moments, but lately I'm starting to love it because it reminds me of our wedding and our time in Japan, so that has changed it the other way round for me :) Can't wait to see your fall-ish recipes and decoration projects!

  25. I like you am a summer person. Also where I was born - there was no such thing. So I am slowly getting used to it but still it makes me anxious for some reason?

I see sweet potatoes!! What are you going to do with them???

You know what? I think that seeing all the seasons in your new home is going to be wonderful xx

  26. I'm the complete opposite...I'm always DYING for the weather to cool down and for the chance to bundle up and wear dark colors and dark lipsticks heheh. But I do agree with you that it's kind of dismal when the days get shorter.
