Picking paint color is tricky + other weekend things.

Why hello!

I know we've all taken turns saying this, but boy is time flying or what? Please someone push the slow button because I don't think I am at all ready for Thanksgiving and, my goodness, trying to schedule everything that needs to get done before Christmas is looking like one giant colossal task.

Every weekend I try to sit down and wrap my head around everything that needs to happen before the holidays roll around in full force, but then every weekend my mind is wrapped around other things that need to get done before the weekend is over!

This weekend my head was wrapped around a little one year old's birthday celebration and me trying to get over my fear of low light photography. I was asked by a friend to just do some casual captures of her daughter's birthday and while I loved being asked {and despite the fact that she was so sweet to not give me any pressure whatsoever}, I just get super nervous because I don't do very well with low light, yellow light and tight spaces. You know that feeling where you really want to do a good job for someone and you're afraid that it may not turn out the way you had imagined? Anyway, I usually wallow for a few hours wishing I had done a better job but straightaway after the birthday celebration my head got wrapped around some painting projects for our home {I actually ended up wallowing over the pictures for a couple of hours on Sunday. Heh. I guess it's an inevitable process with me}.

Since rearranging our living room, our chalkboard wall was looking a little out of place and so I wanted to move it. I had it all planned out -- paint our chalkboard wall back to its original color and just paint a new wall with chalkboard paint! So easy right? Only, well into the evening I realized that the previous owners had left paint for everything except for the walls and so I had to drag everyone back to Home Depot and quickly decide what to do. A colorful statement wall seemed to be the answer and while the better part of my judgement told me to just bring home some swatches and make a decision with a clear head the next day, I was so desperate to get the walls done on Saturday night before our meet and greet with a Dogvacay client on Sunday {I don't know, sometimes my mind works in complicated and weird ways}. And so, I tried my best to recollect the color of our sofa and somehow chose a weird blue color. As soon as the Home Depot lady began to make and mix our paint, I knew I hated it. Awful, right? The color is still not sitting well with me and while we do have plans to add some white framed wall gallery and also white floating shelves, I have a feeling that wall is going to get repainted in 6 months {Yangkyu is already bracing for the moment when I randomly tell him -- let's repaint the wall!}.

This week, I'm doing a bit more reorganizing and stealing part of Yangkyu's office to make room for my crafting and making. He actually wanted me to set up this space next to his desk since the day we moved, but I had so little supplies and I liked crafting in front of the TV. But as I was rearranging the living room yesterday, I noticed how many things I have accumulated. That always feels good, no? Kind of reaffirms that interest, which started a while ago, actually stuck and wasn't a one time thing. I like that.

Anyway, aside from reorganizing, I am hoping to get organized for the holidays -- getting our Thanksgiving menu done, decorating, ordering Christmas cards and deciding what to make to send to friends and family this year. I like to send them out early so I don't have to worry about them as it gets closer to Christmas. Fingers crossed that I will come up with some sort of timeline! Woot woot!

Have a great week everyone!

  5. Wowie, sounds like you had a busy weekend with
photography job, crafting and re-arranging rooms!
I prefer not doing taking pictures with low and yellow
lights either, but then I'll grab my tripod and set the
shutterspeed. I'm sure your friend will love the results,
as long you are being honest with each other!

  6. I like the blue and I think it will be super nice with white bits on it. Well 6 months is a good length of time to know if it is really you - I wonder what Jane will do next?!

  7. Well that wall was quite an adventure. I like the colour, but only via photos. Colours always look different IRL, do what you need to do in 6 months!

  15. Breathe Jane Breathe! You have a lot on your plate. Take it one day at a time! You'll get it all done. My home is boring beiges and browns. If I had to do anything other than neutrals, I would have a heart attack trying to decide. HaHaHa

  16. First up, Jane, your house looks amazing!!! You've really made it a home it is warm and cosy and very you. I don't think that blue is weird at all, looks lovely and provides a nice pop of colour

  17. You just read my mind Jane and wrote it on a blog! I can work in low light BUT I prefer real natural outdoor lighting! It's not that I can't do it, it's more like, I feel as if I can't represent myself well if I did photo shoots indoors if that makes sense? Outdoor is light is just so perfect. I have a photo shoot coming up where it's indoors so I'm a little nervous about that.

Anyway, your photos are soooo good! Love that photo of Piri looking out the window! Curry has started doing that lately and it's so cute!

    1. natural light is really lovely to take photos in. i do get scared of harsh sunlight too and hope to get better with that, but i will always prefer natural light to yellow light! eeck! :)

  18. That blue is lovely. You could "frame" it out when you add the gallery photos to almost make the blue seem like a piece of art on its own and then have the white framed photos on top of it. Maybe even add that colorful bunting to it, too.

  19. I love the wall color, what a beautiful shade of blue! I know what you mean though, sometimes if you're not totally in love with it, it just won't work. I had this problem with our bathroom. I wanted something soft and saw this swatch called Magnolia at the store. I was more enamored with the name and was just wanting to get it done, so I bought the paint, and my husband and I spent the weekend painting. When it was all said and done, it looked fluorescent green in our bathroom lighting, lol! Needless to say, we had to try again :)

  24. I'm loving all the updates to your decor. I can't wait to be able to delve in to do the same. I'm not sure if rental properties work the same way though... Lovely photos! And girl yes, I would also love a pause button or at the very least a "slow down" button because wow, Thanksgiving is next week. Christmas is right after. I started buying my gifts last Friday and was hesitant at first but then I had to remind myself, wait a minute, time is flying so I better lol. You have a great week too Jane!

  25. Wow, what a packed weekend, although it also sounds so much fun :) Low yellow lights are really terrifying when asked to take pictures, but the bounced flash, trying to take advantage of the little light coming from the outside (if any) or trying to be nicer to ourselves when checking the pictures afterwards (we are soo harsh with us always :S) makes it a not so bad experience :) Looove your snow boots so much! Oh! and that blue color on the wall, give it a rest, I'm sure it will grow on you (even more with the white contrasting)!

  26. The good thing about paint is that you can always redo it so don't despair! I've never actually painted anything before and am nervous to mess with it (and spill it all over the hardwoods / carpet) so I'll stick with boring white for now
