Christmas Traditions.

Every year during the holidays, I take out this doggie PJs and put it on Piri. He's the only one around here that actually wears Christmas jammies. I also have a elf hat that I like to put on him to annoy him take a few pictures. He's always a good sport during the holidays.

Since building our life together, Yangkyu and I began to hold little traditions of our own, some taken from ones started by our parents and others newly created by us.

This year though, with my schedule being a little tight with all the doggy vacay guests coming to stay during the holidays, we haven't been able to keep most  --  like going to see The Nutcracker {we decided to switch off every other year to see The Nutcracker  at The Kennedy Center and A Christmas Carol at Ford's Theatre}, Zoolights and checking out the holiday market before heading over to see the National Tree

We did though get to go see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies last night and it was so good. {and I couldn't get over all the wonderful knitwears in the movie! heh} Since the movies are now over, we're now thinking that all of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies must be watched during future holidays on DVD. Yes.

We're still new at this traditions thing, and hopefully it'll grow and become a bit more personal as the years go on.

What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?

  1. We like going to see the National Christmas tree too and actually went last weekend. Last year we when the kids were old enough, we started the tradition of baking cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve...hope to do that again this year. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. My husband watches Harry Potter and Home Alone over and over during the holiday season. In the early years, I was actually a bit tired of seeing the same movies on what seemed like an endless repeat....but I've come to enjoy watching them with him and Louie and it's now a tradition for us :) Happy holidays!!

  6. Piri! You are a "pajama-chan " too!! Hahaha just like me - we can be friends. I've never had a dog-friend before. I think you would be my first xx

We have just one tradition. A very silly one. Our first Christmas together, we had hardly any money. I remember Hiro, his brother and I putting our pennies together and bought a little bit of food to enjoy on the day. We ended up with 2 fish, some rice and a few vegetables. We found an unused disposable BBQ in our kitchen left over from the summer and so we decided to have a BBQ outside in the freezing 2 degrees below freezing weather in London. It was so dark so we lit some candles and huddled together to share our meal. From that day, every christmas that we are all together (this is our 11th now) we order fish and have a little BBQ on Christmas night. We remember how little we had back then and we feel thankful that we can afford a bit more and that we still have each other to keep warm with.

  7. He's such a cutie. Each Christmas has been different for us so even after 8 years of marriage we haven't forged a tradition yet. It's a good idea. Perhaps, we can change it this year and create one.

  8. Rick and I have a few holiday traditions we've created together. We usually open our presents to each other on the 24th (when Christmas is traditionally celebrated in Quebec), before the big family dinner on the 25th. We've also started a tradition of buying one new ornament each year, which is fun. But I like your idea of creating traditions for Piri. Guess I need to created some traditions for the kitties.

  20. Piri in his pj's make my day :) how cute! I loooved the zoolights. We are also building new traditions the same as you three, we have already decided to join Santa and Tió de Nadal (Christmas log) efforts to represent both our childhood traditions together and also to create (the two of us, 'cause usually it's me alone on the crafts side) one tree ornament each year, although this year since we bought the new tree we missed it (oops!) but diy-ed the pinecone owl instead. Also going to the movies on Christmas day is an unavoidable date :)
