Embroidery

Do you know of Yumiko Higuchi? I follow her on Facebook and Instagram and I can't get enough of her beautiful creations.

I came across her work a couple of months ago and have been wanting to try a little embroidery myself. I dabbled at some stitches the other day and it was fun but I'm afraid I have a long ways to go before I'll be able to finish any sort of embroidery project. So many stitches to learn! And I have to stop being so messy with my stitches.

I'm dreaming of making a couple of tea towels and wall decorations and maybe some bandanas for our Piri's Place guests. One day. One day.

What are you dreaming of making lately?

Vegan Cuts: January Box

For almost a year, I've been going back and forth on whether I wanted to subscribe to one of the many popular monthly delivery services. I thought about Barkbox but since Piri can't eat a lot of treats with his kidney disease we opted not to subscribe, although the boxes do include lots of toys and gifts as well. Of course there was Nerd Block, which piqued my interest through the awesome unboxing videos that Mariko did over at Gamerwife. And we are also very interested in Try the World too.

But first, I gave Vegan Cuts a go. I am always looking to get to know more vegan beauty products and have always relied on Leaping Bunny. Getting a curated box for $19.95 per month seemed like a great deal and so I signed up initially for the three month service {$59 - one time charge}.

From their website, the boxes in brief:
  • include 4-7 products that are 100% cruelty-free
  • are mostly organic and natural
  • a mix of full and sample size products
  • and is free shipping to the US

I received the January box over the weekend and it included some really great things I have been wanting to have and wanting to try:

+ Crazy Rumos HibisKiss Lip Color in Coral: I don't normally wear colored lip balms or tints and usually have struck out with them. I do like the coral color {and I did like it on me as well} and the smell is pleasant as well. I just don't know if I will always reach out for it to wear. We'll have to see!

+ Bellapierre Cosmetics Nail Polish in Fire Red: I love painting my nails and I tend to stick to orangey colors. But just as I did with getting  getting more bold with red lipstick, I have been wanting to do the same with my nails. So low and behold, when I got this nail polish in fire red I couldn't be happier.

+ Modern Minerals Shimmer Eyeshadow in Rose: I don't normally wear eyeshadow so I am not sure if I will use this. But I do like that it is shimmer and that it isn't so much of a stand out color. Perhaps I will try and experiment.

+ elloVi Body Butter {sample size}: I put this on my hands and all around my cuticles yesterday and I am already loving this stuff. I thought it would go on a little greasy, but no. My hands felt great and so did my poor battered cuticles. This is definitely going to be a winter lifesaver for me.

+ DermOrganic Intensive Hair Repair Masque and Daily Conditioning Shampoo: I can't wait to try out the hair repair masque. If you remember back on this post, I have a thing with my hair and am currently finding ways to make it healthy again. I'm curious how effective it will be.

+ Gourmet body Treats Sugar & Spice Scrub: I haven't made my usual lemon and honey scrub, which I used for both my face and body, in a while and so this will be a welcome substitute for the time being. The sugar and coffee mix smells amazing.

I'm definitely pleasantly surprised at the items I got this month and am already anxious to receive my February box.

If you're interested, you can sign up to receive your Vegan Cuts Beauty Products here! {There is also a Vegan Cuts Snack box as well}

A weekend at Rolling River Farm

Over the weekend we packed up our little hatchback and set off about a hour away to Rolling River Farm in Front Royal, VA. We stayed in a pretty yellow farmhouse and spent a wonderful couple of days with our friends, Suzanne and Min and their baby girl Olivia, and Yoel and Rara, and all our dogs, Hiro the Shiba Inu, Mini the Westie and Piri the Cocker Spaniel {wow - they sound like the power rangers don't they? heh}. Yangkyu and I packed a bunch of things - books, running shoes, yarn, board games, video games - but in the end we mostly ate, explored the grounds, ate some more, laughed and immersed ourselves in good conversations. We all got to know each other better and sort of cemented this friendship a little deeper and tighter. It was such a good weekend.

Toward the end of our trip we were already beginning plans and dreaming up a getaway again as a group for the summer. We're thinking The Outer Banks in North Carolina. The dogs are definitely going again, too. We can't wait. Yangkyu and I couldn't be happier to be able to plan these things, get away with friends and have Piri join in as well.

Here are some pictures from the weekend at Rolling River Farm
